The Socratic method adds a certain je ne sais quoi, wouldn't you say?
Readers of my journal who have experienced arthritis, menstruation or childbirth
might think little of it by comparison, but I spent today in an annoying amount
of pain. You see, I have this thing called
psoriasis, which is a skin
disease which causes red, scaly patches over about 60% of my body. These then
itch like crazy. Scratching them is... well, not better than sex, but pretty
damn satisfying, but since the skin is very weak there it often causes quite
impressive amounts of bleeding, which messes up clothes unless I'm quite
careful, and (which is the important point today) also makes the skin ache
wherever anything touches it, especially when the weather is cold and rainy. So
my skin ached wherever my clothes touched it today, making me very envious of
these people (there isn't
enough naked dancing in fields in the world, I think). I tell you all this not
to complain, because really that's pointless and lots of people have it worse,
but rather to help myself remember the side-effects of giving in to the itching,
and also to explain why I didn't get as much done as I thought I might.
I wore my trenchcoat, black jeans, the black Sandman shirt and stompy shoes
today. It was a productive day in some ways and less so in others. I spent most
of it trying to think about a particular bug, and failing to gain traction, and
the elegant solution-- obviously the correct one in the same way that a cryptic
crossword answer is sometimes obviously correct-- only hit me on the way home. I
tested it and at least in Firefox I was right; I need to test it in IE
tomorrow.
At lunchtime, I walked from
St
Mark's to
the Shoe and bought
the zine I mentioned yesterday; then to
Pearl and bought
Firinel some art supplies;
then back to SfP. So I suppose I walked about two and a half miles all told.
Back at home I went straight to
Riordon's school for parents'
evening. We got to meet her teacher and see around her classroom.
Plexq was there, too, and it was
good to see him again; after the meeting we all went to the diner and talked
about things.
Someone asked me when the last time I was "home" was today. I was confused for a
while, until I realised that zie meant England.
Fin is really happy because zie is going to see
Moominmuppet! I am so
happy and excited for them both!
I didn't get much working in the bugzilla thing, though I tried. A couple of
people have suggested a better patch icon: thank you. Also, congratulations to
everyone involved in the GNOME 2.16 release. You all rock.
