Sunday
On Sunday we went to
church in the morning,
where we discussed the sacraments, and (separately) the role of the laity in the
church. I didn't know any of the hymns. The rector preached about Jesus clearing
the temple, and he began by asking whether we should charge for parking and
entrance and communion and so on. Of course people kept joking the rest of the
time about the fees they would levy for different things.
A few Sundays ago I met a woman called Deborah who has a little babe-in-arms
called Luis (or possibly Louis) that she has adopted. On Sunday I met her
partner whose name is Stuart. They are very friendly.
The church have finished setting up the new new hall, to some extent. Apparently
the other church that meets in our building used it for the first time last
week. There's been an awful lot of building recently: there are new rooms
everywhere and new offices, and a new new hall (as opposed to the old new hall)
and a nursery school and an old people's home! Also there are outreach type
things getting shoes and toothpaste and other necessities to people who can't
afford them in the area, and something we're doing with our partner church in
Kajo Keji (I'm not sure of quite
what).
After the service, there was some amazing cake downstairs in the old new
hall.
We went to
a
diner and talked to some of the other people. I talked to Anneka a bit, who
is married to James, who is one of the seminary students at St Gabriel's. She is
a nurse. We all mostly ate salad.
Then
Plexq drove us to the
nearest good bookshop, which is
all
the way over in Reading, and we hung around and looked at books, and bought
a CD. Then we all went home, but I fell asleep in the car. (It was very soothing
hearing the sound of an engine with a manual transmission.) I dreamed God was
saving everyone's souls, but he was saving them in XML and nobody could contact
him to figure out the correct DTD.
