So, a reasonably productive day.
To the doctor in the morning, to be told that I'd had not only a
MRSA infection but also
Citrobacter freundii taking
up residence in the broken skin that got infected; after some +5 antibiotics of
doom, I am now believed to be free of both of them, so anyone who was thinking
of sharing towels with me need not worry any more. I still don't know where it
came from. Apparently people can pass it on to you without showing any symptoms
themselves, though.
I stayed home afterwards because it was really rather too late to go in, and
worked on the new self-serve tax system. It is going to be so awesome when it's
all ready. I stayed working on it from then until one, when we went to the mall,
and then on coming back until about seven o'clock.
At the mall, we ate a cheesesteak. I also had my beard and moustache and hair
trimmed. The barber (she told me that she was technically a barber because she
wasn't qualified to do manicures) said that I hadn't been taking care of my hair
very well, and that four to six inches need to come off. Eventually we
compromised on her taking three or so off today (I am feeling a bit lacking in
the hair department now), and me promising to come back in a couple of months
when my hair had grown some more and she could take the rest of the damaged part
off. I worked on revising
mutations while
Rio got her hair cut.
I'd
thought the upgrade of spectrum from sarge to dapper went without a
hitch. I was wrong! Today we powered it off to look inside, and when we turned
it back on, X didn't start. Turns out it had been running XFree86,
which doesn't exist in
Ubuntu, so there was no X server installed. I have now configured xorg well
enough that Fin can read zir email, in a lowest-common-denominator sort of way,
but there are still local colourmaps and things (which takes me right back to
1994), and I'll be gradually trying to improve things next.
We talked to
Plexq on the
doorstep when he brought Rio back for well over an hour, mostly about politics
and things. I may be persuaded to pick up a bass again for the first time in...
almost ten years. Watch this space.
This is a really interesting site
about Native American language families.
I haven't had a spare moment to look into the FUSA problem where the callback
gets called twice. Maybe there'll be time tomorrow. Gosh, is it 1am already? I
need to get some sleep.
