James James

Every day walking into work, and every day walking home, I pick one of the two big stations in Philadelphia to start at or finish from. It doesn't make much of a difference in train times (five minutes here or there) or walking distance (two blocks across or seven down— Philadelphia is built on a big grid pattern, and you get used to counting in blocks quite quickly).

This morning I started from Suburban Station, and because I did so, I passed the Starbucks at 16th and Walnut Streets. They were closed for renovations, but the staff were amusing themselves by standing outside and handing out free coffee to anyone who walked past. There was no milk, because "they" had taken away their refrigerator. I'm not saying they'll be there tomorrow, but if you're in the area you might drop by.

This evening, on the other hand, I walked back to Market East Station, and because I did so, some chap walked up to me and said, "Hey, pothead. You look like a pothead. What's that stuff on your arms, is that from smoking too much weed?" I giggled at him in a stoned kind of way and stumbled off. Whatever my opinions on the need to fundamentally reform legislation dealing with C. sativa, there's no way in heck you could truthfully describe me as a pothead. People occasionally do assume I do drugs for some reason, possibly because I have a rather absent-minded mien. (Or, as one former coworker put it, "you do seem a bit away with the fairies, Tom".)

I do pay attention, honestly.

Today I fixed server-side validation on the SEIU project, and went to some planning meetings. At St Mark's, the Priest Who Hugs Everybody told us some things about St James, which were pretty interesting, but I don't remember the details right now (I'm tired and in a bit of a rush), but if I remember I'll post later. I also reviewed a patch that vuntz made. Sharon was staying late, so I came home on the bus, but I was feeling too exhausted to code or read much. Fin, who has been making beautiful magnets today, made some lovely tofu salad for us. I love shallow-fried tofu with lettuce.

I think I have a real talent for baking (basic) cakes well— fruitcakes and sponges and cheesecakes— but these days I almost never use it. Maybe I should bake a cake a month, or something.

Tonight we're going to watch Mango Kiss.
