In a rude and barbarous age
Floatyfish and
Firinel came to pick me up
from work, and we drove to
Floatyfish and
Onib's house, where we watched
a film and chatted. This morning
we drove to nearby
Elk Neck,
where we walked up to the headland and visited
a small lighthouse
that
stood
overlooking the bay. We sat for a while on a little
beach which was good
for thinking; later, we walked up to another beach where we ate lunch, and then
we spent some time in
a
playground which was almost entirely made of tyres. The ground was covered
in little bits of tyre, the equipment was mostly made of wood and tyres, and
there was even a sculpture of a snake-monster made out of tyres.
Later, we came back to
watch
Finland win Eurovision. (You might want to watch that if you missed it. It's
a little different from the usual Eurovision fare. Then you might want to watch
this, too.) Amy and John
made a delicious meal of pita, hummus and couscous.
Today is the feast of
Alcuin of
York (735-804). He was a schoolteacher;
the school he taught at
is still around.
