In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye

This morning
Firinel woke up very early, at
about half past three, and after a while woke me and
Riordon up. We all went for a
walk together around the neighbourhood, with Rio choosing which path we took at
every turn.
When we were back home, Sharon phoned to say she was feeling ill, but she came
over and drove us to
St Gabriel's anyway.
This morning, Deacon DJ was preaching about
the Transfiguration
of Jesus, since today is the Feast of the Transfiguration. She told us about
a "mountaintop experience" she had had with God in 1989, when despite her then
lack of experience or training she felt God was calling her to be a priest. It's
seventeen years later and she's almost there. :) She said that calls like this
were not just to build people up but to prepare them to get to work to help
other people. I don't think I've ever had a "mountaintop experience", but then
I've always been more of a valleys person myself.
I was rather distracted from the sermon by the delightful discovery that
Americans pronounce
shone to rhyme with
cone and not
gone.
Just when you think you know the differences between dialects, another one pops
up. Did any of you know about this difference?
Afterwards a friendly person came and gave me a letter about being a Sunday
School teacher, which is something I think I have some kind of a calling to and
so something I've been wanting to get back into doing now we're settling down a
bit at St Gabriel's. So that's happy. Rio went to vacation Sunday School this
morning and had apparently been studying
the eleventh chapter of Isaiah;
she came back with a sheep made of a polystyrene cup with four holes cut into it
to poke your fingers through for legs, and a bit of cotton wool stuck on the
top. Its name, if I make no mistake, was Mrs. Fickle.
Afterwards Fin drove Sharon's car to craft shops (Rio kept saying
"Who
is driving?? Mummy is driving!! How can that be??"), and then we
came home and Fin did some beading while I went for a walk with Rio to buy
milk.
I went to feed the Three Hungry Cats and found that we'd used up all the tins of
catfood, so I opened a tin of tuna and fed that to them instead. They were very
happy about it.
The discussion about double-clicking the menu button has spilled out (at my
suggestion) onto
Debian's
tracker. I swear I'm not advocating for this patch to be included: I'm just
making stuff people ask for and, where someone asked how they could get the
patch included, advising them to go and talk to their distro's maintainers. I
hope this doesn't lead to conflict and contention. :(
