Evil Indianan goats, and other things

There has been some talk at work about the pricing for the 2007 tax program, so it was a relief to hear officially that it's going to be free for all customers. Stay tuned to this journal if you want to know how you can get your taxes filed for free next year. Hurrah!

Krasota and Explodingcat came to Philly and we ate lunch together at Govinda's. It was really good to see them. I hope we can see one another again soon.

I found and fixed one of the last major metacity compositor crashes (I haven't checked it in yet). There still remains the issue of windows getting lost now and then (it's so weird using a metacity which isn't stable as a rock, when the compositor's turned on). It seems to me that people are having trouble finding libcm since it hasn't been officially released, so I might release a basic version over the weekend. I'm not sure when the compositor will be good enough that we can compile it in and disable it in gconf, but I'd like very much to get to that point so that we can get more testing.

SEPTA has a rule that you should keep your ticket visible throughout the whole journey. I don't know anyone who keeps this rule, because of the risk of theft and forgetting about it. I've been commuting into Philly for years, but today for the first and last time I forgot my pass. I fell asleep as soon as I got on the train, and I remember the conductor coming past and me fumbling out my ticket... and then next thing I knew I was getting off the train and catching the bus. My ticket had gone! I rushed down to the petrol station at the foot of the hill and bought chocolate and cash back in singles so I could catch the bus. Then I found some money lying on the pavement outside.
